When I look back at my career, I see a series of pivots that felt scary in the moment—but ultimately built the business I have today.
As a Sacramento Branding Photographer, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a well-timed pivot.
After undergrad, I went straight to grad school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for my Master’s in Counseling. While many of my friends were getting their first salaried jobs, I was grinding through three years of study and 3,000 hours of clinical work on my path to becoming a therapist.
I became licensed in 2015 and spent years working in different therapy roles—mostly with kids. I loved the work, but motherhood changed everything. Once I had children, I realized I didn’t want my career to keep me away from them every evening.
As a Sacramento Branding Photographer, I can tell you that understanding when to pivot is crucial for success.
That’s when I picked up my camera. At first, it was just to document my kids’ days. Then friends asked me to photograph them. Then family. Before long, photography became a business—one that allowed me to stay closer to home.
But even then, another pivot was waiting.
As my kids got older and our evenings filled with practices and activities, I craved more boundaries around family time. At the same time, I kept meeting moms who were also business owners—women juggling it all, trying to be seen and taken seriously online. That’s when I shifted into branding photography.
