A Guide to Stunning Photos in the Blossoms from a Sacramento Family Photographer
Since this season is short and highly sought after, planning ahead is essential. As a Sacramento family photographer, I’m sharing five key tips to help you make the most of your almond blossom session.
Almond blossom season is one of the most breathtaking yet fleeting times of the year. For just a few weeks in late February to early March, the orchards transform into a dreamy landscape of soft pink and white blooms. This setting creates the perfect backdrop for family, maternity, milestone, and sibling sessions.

1. Plan Ahead—Sacramento Family Photography Sessions Fill Fast
Almond blossoms don’t last long, and neither do session openings. With peak bloom lasting only two to three weeks, photographers book up quickly. Many clients secure their almond blossom sessions as early as December through mid-January to guarantee their spot.

2. Choose Soft, Neutral Tones for Family Photographs (Ivory Over White!)
Your outfit choices impact the final look of your photos. Soft, neutral tones blend seamlessly with the delicate pink and white blossoms, creating an elegant and timeless feel.
Best colors for almond blossom sessions:
- Ivory, cream, and beige – Soft, warm, and classic
- Blush and dusty rose – Adds warmth without overpowering the scene
- Muted blues and earthy tones – Subtle contrast that enhances the natural beauty
Avoid:
- Bright white (too stark for this setting)
- Bold colors or busy patterns (compete with the softness of the orchard)

3. Dress in Layers—Evenings Can Be Cool in Sacramento
Golden hour light makes for stunning almond blossom photos, but evenings cool down quickly. Wearing layers ensures you stay comfortable while maintaining a polished look.
For adults and kids, consider:
- Light knit cardigans or sweaters in neutral tones
- Textured fabrics like ribbed knits or lightweight fleece
- Extra layers for little ones who get chilly faster

4. Prepare for the Orchard Setting—Expect Soft or Damp Ground in Sacramento and other areas
Almond orchards are natural outdoor locations, and as a Sacramento family photographer, you will be navigating dirt paths and potentially damp ground after recent rain.
Footwear Tips:
- Best options: Flats, boots, or practical sandals with a sturdy sole
- Avoid: High heels (they sink into the ground)
I bring neutral blankets for sitting poses, but if you have one you love, feel free to bring it along!

5. Keep It Fun and Relaxed for Family Photographs
As a Sacramento family photographer that has photographed hundreds of families, the best photos happen when families embrace the moment instead of worrying about perfect poses.
