Lifestyle newborn photography aims to capture authentic moments and connections. This means I will lightly pose and guide you into more natural interactions, rather than stiff poses where everyone smiles and says, "cheese" at the camera. Don't worry, I will get those "holiday photo" shots, but we will knock them out early so we can focus on where the true magic happens!

For newborn sessions, this also means that I focus on natural interactions and images of your baby. I will pose your baby in your arms, use blankets and swaddles, simple backdrops like the crib, or the master bed and natural lighting. If you have your heart set on posed shots of your baby, with props and studio lighting- that is wonderful- but let's chat first so we ensure we're the best fit!

I typically plan my lifestyle newborn sessions for around 7-14 days after your baby's arrival in the comfort of your home around mid-morning, often around 10am-10:30am during the week.

I have found this is when the lighting is the best and most flattering in your home, and when your baby is in those early days of newborn slumber and it is easiest to move about and position them.

I do not limit newborn photos to those early days and have photographed newborn sessions up to 6 months old or more dependent on how the entire family is feeling and recovering after their birth. If you'd like an extended time-frame for scheduling your newborn session, let me know during booking!

The best time to schedule newborn photos is when you are entering your 2nd trimester. I am booked approximately 2-4 months in advance, so it is best to inquire as soon as possible.

We will tentatively schedule your newborn session for the estimated due date, as I try to limit my newborn sessions to 3-4 per month. We will keep in touch as your due date nears, and then officially schedule once your baby arrives and you feel settled. 

This is one of my favorite parts! Your outfits and styling will 100% impact the feel of your session and your final images. I have a complimentary online styling platform that you will have access to, a client closet and will offer guidance and assistance as needed along the way.

I also like to get an overall vibe of your home and style from your questionnaire and preferences. I will send you e-mails with clickable links of outfit ideas for your entire family, as well as a curated list of lifestyle newborn items I have put together in an Amazon list.

For lifestyle newborn sessions, I typically recommend a neutral color palette, as it photographs beautifully in most homes and reduces unflattering color casts on babies.

Of course they can! These photos are of the entire family and I absolutely love the images of big siblings with their new little sibling. The personalities and the love make for the most amazing galleries.

In home sessions lend themselves well to having your pets be captured as part of your family, and I especially love to capture newborns with their newest furry pals too!

Let me know ahead of time too, as I like to plan out my session flow and poses in advance, so this helps me factor in ages of siblings and pets.

That's the beauty of family sessions! Some of my favorite images are from sessions where the kids were just being kids. I am the oldest of five children, so I basically function best in organized chaos!

We will roll with the punches, get them to laugh and capture them perfectly just as they are. My #1 rule is for the session: act like everything your children does is hilarious. Make sure to remind your spouse of that too!

I try to remind parents that often toddlers are adjusting to the transition to a new sibling, so we need to take the expectation bar down and know there will be plenty of built-in snack breaks and play time in between photos. With newborns, there is always something to photograph and the beauty is that it truly captures this time in your lives!
