I recently suggested to a family that we photograph their family session in Downtown Lodi to provide a change of scenery from the typical grassy field, outdoor sessions. I loved that I was able to bring my vision to life and had such a wonderful time strolling and exploring Downtown Lodi for their family photography session. Today, I am sharing three reasons you should opt to hold your next family session in Downtown Lodi.
1. A Different Perspective for a Family Photography Session
We have all had our family sessions in a grassy field. They are beautiful, although year after year, it’s fun to try something new and novel. As a family photographer, I often see so many of the same locations in images and appreciate a new perspective and scenery to photograph a family session. The brick, the storefronts, the roof of the parking garage, and the ability to style in more edgy outfits all add something different to your every day family photos.
2. The Variety for your Gallery
What I found culling and editing this gallery was that there were so many diverse images to provide to the family. I loved the variety that the scenery lended to pull back, up close, and contextual shots of Downtown Lodi. When photographing in a field, sometimes there is a limit to the variety that a gallery provides. We were able to walk quite easily to a few different spots that created a completely different vibe, with the lighting and scenery. The children loved being able to interact and engage in their environment in a different way that kept them engaged during the session.
3. Ease and Accessibility for a Family Photography Session
With Downtown Lodi being open year round, we don’t have to worry about closures, parking, or weather damage. The ease at which the children could interact with the environment and the ability to walk right into a dinner reservation or grab take-out after the session is a win-win. I mapped out a route for us and we started and ended at the parking garage. It was perfect to be able to walk and get to know the family and then easily change locations when the children needed a break. I loved ending the session with the sunset on the top of the parking garage into blue hour. These were some of my favorite images from the session and the children could let loose and be themselves.
